We'll start with highlighting what's working in Westwood Village, share the opinions of people on the street (yup, we asked them), and then ask you to get creative and build a better block.

This unique workshop, which will be held upstairs at Jerry’s Deli in Westwood, will provide an excellent opportunity to interact with other engaged community members and urban thinkers. Participants will develop strategies addressing challenges facing Westwood Village and build on its history and many assets. This event is organized by a group of Westwood Village community members in response to a call for community participation and action by GOOD magazine in partnership with the Sheridan/Hawkes Design Collective and the Public Studio.
We don't want your money - just your ideas. We promise. You are receiving this invitation because we have identified you as an innovative thinker who could be a meaningful participant in re-thinking Westwood Village. Thanks.

The current draft map of Westwood Village assets produced after last Friday's most entertaining asset mapping pub crawl! A brilliant combination of business and pleasure, I must say.
We found a lot of great spots - businesses, historic structures and vintage murals, bike racks and nice benches to hang out. We also noted many vacancies in the blocks we explored - but rather than ignoring them, we prefer to think of them as crucial opportunities for building on the existing assets of Westwood Village.
And, many thanks to everyone who came out - especially you incoming students and non-planners who so gamely pitched in!

Pub crawl and... asset mapping, of course. This Friday
Come out for a Pub Crawl and Asset Mapping night of awesomeness in Westwood Village next Friday, August 6th.
Here is how it works... We will start at Brew Co. (corner of Glendon and Kinross) at 7pm on Friday. We'll enjoy some tasty beverages and go over the plan for the night.

Basically we will go to three bars and yogurt land, and in between our stops we'll take pictures of what we love about Westwood (in the process identifying Westwood's assets).
So why do we care about this - other than being proud, self professed plannerds? Well we are putting on a workshop in September about moving westwood forward, and we will use the information we collect to help put together some activities. More to come on the workshop (and invites for everyone) in the future.
In the mean time, mark your calendars - Friday August 6 at 7pm at Brew Co. We will be going to stop number 2 around 8pm, so call or text if you need to track us down after 8. We'll be somewhere in the Village!
Don't forget to bring a camera or smart phone - we'll be posting pictures to our flickr account! (And of course bring as many friends as you can drag along!)
